As an Animal Shelter, the SPCA provides a safe-haven for animals in need of a home and an adoption service for abandoned, abused or neglected animals. In an average year, the Shelter finds homes for some 500 animals ranging from cats and dogs, to guinea pigs and rabbits.
The SPCA Inspector investigates complaints of cruelty and improper care for all types of animals. On occasions we work with the Government Animal Wardens, Government Veterinarian and the Police to investigate a complaint, and when appropriate, prosecute those responsible for the cruelty.
The S.P.C.A. provides 24-hour emergency service for animals that have been injured or are in need of emergency care.
We provide a lost and found service for animals. You may either list the animal on our website or call or fax the information and a staff member will be post it to our website. When the animal has been re-united with its owner, please let us know so we can delete the information from the Lost and Found.
We act as a general referral bureau for animal information.
Although the S.P.C.A. is not directly responsible for stray dogs, the Staff works with the Government Animal Wardens for lost and found dogs and to home unclaimed strays and puppies from illegal litters.
Similarly, the S.P.C.A. does not deal directly with the feral cat population in Bermuda, but works with the Bermuda Feline Assistance Bureau (BFAB) to find homes for kittens from feral mothers. BFAB is responsible for trapping, spaying and neutering feral cats and can be reached at: 291-1737. Please leave a message on their voicemail system and they will return your call.
